One the few high points of the Washington Huskies’ disappointing 2007-08 season was beating then No. 2 ranked UCLA Bruins at home. Click here for the complete boxscore (courtesy ESPN) of that game. UDub ended the season with a 16-17 overall record (7-11 in the Pac-10), finishing above California and Oregon St., the cellar-dwellers of the Pac-10.
If UCLA ends up becoming the national champions, which will ruin my tourney brackets 👿 , it will be the first time in its college basketball history that UDub has defeated the eventual the NCAA national champion.
Moreover, for the first time in NCAA Tournament history, all #1 seeds have made it to the Final Four. The games are as follows:
1st Game: (1) UCLA vs. (1) Memphis
My prediction: Memphis, 70-60. Fab frosh Derrick Rose and the athleticism of the rest of the Tigers will be too much for UCLA. The game will be close in the beginning, but Memphis will pull away in the 2nd half. If you remember, UCLA got so many favorable calls to end their season. Unfortunately, the Bruins won’t be getting any calls going their way this time around.
2nd Game: (1) Kansas vs. (1) North Carolina
My prediction: North Carolina, 60-57. Given Kansas’ performance against Davidson, you would figure that the Tar Heels would blow the Jayhawks away. However, North Carolina just beat Davidson, 72-68 in the first game of the regular season. Furthermore, Kansas will meet their longtime, former coach, Roy Williams, so their might be some extra motivation on the Jayhawks side. In the end, North Carolina’s overall depth will allow them to top Kansas in a close one.
